I feel so sorry for these people, possibly losing their homes. This may not be appropriate but, if you notice in the article, it says the family is staying in a hotel with vouchers from the Red Cross. Just last week someone sent out a list saying the Red Cross didnt do anything with donations, that is not true. This is a prime example of one of the things the Red Cross does on a daily basis, people are usually so caught up in the story that they never notice, that at every major disaster, even with just this threat of a disaster, the Red Cross is there. Dont let rumors stop you from donating to the Red Cross, they do help, a lot, even if we never notice.
