I feel that I am witnessing the birth of two bad memes in the case - TopicsExpress

I feel that I am witnessing the birth of two bad memes in the case of the work of Chicago photographer Vivian Maier about whom a documentary came out this week. She is being tagged by some as a person with Aspergers Syndrome, an idea I reject completely, and then too some are saying that because she never chose to pursue a career in the arts that makes her an outsider artist, a notion I also whole-heardtedly reject. I suspect the fervor behind her discovery is that these days all creative people will leave behind hundreds of thousands of drawings, and sketches, and photos, all to be committed to the dumpster by even their spouses, who do not understand. She offers hope to the million geniuses of our eutrophicated renaissance. But the Cinderella fantasy is a construct of the adolescent imagination--when we are 16, we all want to be understood. I suspect Maier just didnt give a shit. As for the documentary, jeez, I know what that means these days, piano tinkling, talking heads, piety and sepia tone recap of that mystical past time called the 1960s, no thanks. Herewith I appropriate a Maier to give the memes crawling up around her the evil eye.
