I feel that in this day and age, many Bboys arent very creative with their dance names anymore. A Name used to send thunder in the air and of course the floor. A lot of guys are settling for these generic names, only to be wanting to change their name a half a dozen times. I was always told by my dear Mentor who went on to glory that, you want a name to live up to, something unique, something that is your own. Sure some of the best names may even be the simplest ones. but A-Rock (Just an example) wont cut it, Its too general, theres no charisma to that kind of name..e on man get creative. Make a name you can live with, live up to. Dont just whip out a name because you feel rushed you need one and because everyone around you has one either. Let that name come to you. The very first time I began using DaddyLong Leggs I can remember perfectly, like it was yesterday. It was 3 months after I started dancing August of 1996 soon as I joined 401 Rockerz, I was given that name by Keef Sweat. I tell this story all the time, It was like the most amazing thing to me, and because my Leggs are long, and Im tall and thin, Ive been able to brand my own character. It actually was inspired by the whip backspin I used to do. And it fit well. I since kept that moniker as obvious and never changed it. Within the first year though, I went from one G in the Legs to two because I also knew there were others out here with the name Legs in their name, but I never heard of anybody with two Gs, I just had to do my own thing and make it stand out Crazy Legs from the Rocksteady Crew used to call me to kick it and soon as Ide answer the phone, He would bust me up and say This is the ORIGINAL Legs & I am your father and we would laugh... Daddy Long Leggs is Who I am for life. So my advice to anyone who does not have a name or a solid name or is soul searching in between names, is dont rush a name, build a character and a style. The name will come to you, be creative and dont bite, and build off of your character. Some of the best names are accidental too. Make sure its really what you want either way, and brand that name everywhere, you go dont confuse people with multiple aliases.
