I figure that today is an appropriate day to announce something that I have been contemplating for a while, and that has now become something to live by, as my conscience has dictated it to be of utmost importance to my peace and happiness. From this day on, I will not buy anything NEW ever again . . . I want for nothing in this way anymore, and what I do need (actual needs) are few and simple. I can buy used, re-use, re-purpose, share, collaborate, cooperate and get by in this life quite fine and I wish to condone that ethic completely, so I have to live it. The only exceptions that I have been able to think of, and I dont think Im being hugely hypocritical considering EVERYTHING else will not be new, are: toilet paper, underwear, socks, art (to support local and indie artists) and small consumables (although I am simplifying that process and will be using home-made concoctions for many). No thing . . . could make me happier, so why bother . . . the earth needs a rest anyway to begin recovering from our onslaught. Letting go . . . is the only way to go : )
