I finally DID venture out of the hotel! Walked around Limpini Park and took pictures of the Monitor Lizards that have taken up residence there. (They are HUGE lizards that eat carrion but look like they could eat a small kid!) Then to the travel agent and plotted out my Thai/Cambodia adventure for the month!!! I consult on and pick up the actual itinerary tomorrow. But we planned a trip by car from Bangkok to Siem Reap, Cambodia. Days of just looking again at the incredible Wats of Angkor Wat area. Plus some day/side tours to "undiscovered Siem Reap", etc. Then an overnight trip to Phnom Penh. This includes lots of sightseeing stops along the way as well as a visit to the restaurant which the tour agent claimed is one of his life-long bests and that he "had spent time in cooking schools so he knows." A few days discovering PP before coming back to BKK for a short stay before taking an overnight train to Chiang Mai with several days there! Found out that one of my DL faculty family members, Debbie Inselman is going to be in Chiang Mai so it will be our Dollar reunion after all!!! Then train back to BKK for a few days before heading back to Sasebo and facing the decisions I need to make about my STUFF! (Shipping vs. storing.) Any San Diego folks interested in Japanese furniture or Thai, Vietnamese or Chinese art works enough for me to ship them to the San Diego area? Hopefully, by the time I get back I will know something about my visa. Because the application receipt form is stapled into my passport now they did a bit of checking before they let me through immigration yesterday. Will publish details of my travel times when I know them.
