I finally got around to starting to shell my dry beans. The dried - TopicsExpress

I finally got around to starting to shell my dry beans. The dried pods pop apart pretty easily, making the process a bit simpler. It just takes time doing them by hand. I could just break apart the pods in the bucket and then clean and sort the beans after, but getting all the broken pod pieces out of the beans is a pain in the butt. Also, some of the last beans that I harvested were sitting on the ground and the pods tend to mold, so you have to inspect the beans for mold when you shell them. Typically, youll find 1 or 2 beans with mold on them, those go in the bucket with the empty pods. These dry beans really are a nice bean to grow, for a bush bean. I think Id have less problems with mold if I grow pole type dry beans, in fact, the Hidatsa beans that we grow in the corn dont have that problem. They just dont grow as well in the corn, not enough direct sunlight. They tend to get shaded out by the corn. Were going to try growing them on a trellis this year and see how that goes.
