I find Black-ish to be refreshing for a variety of reasons. To over simplify one of the many reasons is that it highlights controversial issues delivered similar to a Leave it to Beaver and Everybody Hates Chris family sitcom. It uses its platform as a sitcom to establish opportunities for talking points in households that are generally taboo and uncomfortable. The backlash has been centered around its unearthing of problematic issues and that have already made those in comfortable in either their place of privilege or area of complacency extremely uncomfortable. (hence read the comment section of the video). For that alone I am grateful. Moreover, it has allowed me to see how quickly black people will be distrusting and overly critical of our own work. For example, I find much of Tyler Perrys work to be problematic although it is widely popular among Black Christian and White audiences. What I do respect however, is that Tyler Perry has show the power of the black audience. Much of his success is attributed to that. As stated on a popular blog I follow He believed in the power of blacks and that itself is important, especially this day and age when blackness is not valued within its own community. The title Black-ish raised eyebrows alone and did its duty as title, which is to capture the attention and intrigue an audience. Sitcom titles are equivalent to book covers in the literary world. As an English degree holder I find that the show itself was extremely well written (at least the pilot/first episode). Its bold and very necessary. https://youtube/watch?v=KjAmMDnTnMg
