I find it fascinating how we think we know our entertainers or how I recently called them our jesters. The Robin Williams incident reminded me of another favorite comedy genius. For Julies Birthday I took us to see him at the Hermosa Comedy store. This the same place where Leno would sharpen up on Sundays, and where Seinfeld often would keep his act tight. We were warmed up by Frazier Smith of KLOS fame, and then Richard Jeni went stream of conscious the whole act. As Julie said she felt like she had a perma smile for an hour. It actually hurt afterwards. That appreciation of someone who could make us FEEL so good. And then shock and horror of him taking his own life with a gun just a couple months later. That line of intimacy too often fools us the entertained into believing we had something with the hired act. That fraud is indeed the act. Thus the betrayal, when it is proven to be what it really was. A jester performing for the court. We having never known him at all. And why our actors, especially our comedians are probably the loneliest people in the world. https://youtube/watch?v=WDM_96X40BU
