I find it great that people are sharing the anniversary of the First World War on their time lines. Some of you may know that I take a family history/genealogy class & as such was asked on behalf of another local action group, who were looking to save the stained glass windows & a plaque from a local church that was being sold. They wanted to know If we could research the names on said plaque. On the plaque was a list of names local men who had lost their lives in the first world war. Myself & good friend / relative David Macdonald, managed to find not only addresses for the majority of these soldiers, but also what regiment they served & where their war graves are. The plaque along with a second world war plaque are now located in Darlaston town hall along with five stained glass windows. All of which were recovered from St Andrews Church in Kings Hill Wednesbury (there was a service of re-dedication back in April). Three of those windows are now dedicated to those who gave their lives in the First World War. I feel happy that I was able to give something back, by giving those names on that plaque an identity again. But it pales into insignificance when you look at what they gave to protect & serve our country.
