I find it interesting on our priorities! I remember when I asked our mentees in the beginning of the year, their prom budget. Not only did they have a break down of how much it was going to cost, but they told me how the village was chipping in to make their $3,000 prom budget a reality! And Im talking about they responded in less than 1.1 seconds! But when I went around the room and asked how they were paying for college, it was SILENCE! So lets roll the tape forward, I attend prom send offs and they are ballin, blocks are shut down from traffic of $100,000 car rentals. And when I ask them about their college plan, there is still silence. When I ask about the village chipping in, it is hesitation. Or when I ask about housing deposit and I am told they havent paid yet but they have on red bottom shoes, I get confused. Im not here to count anybodys pennies but it would be nice if our young people were confident on how they will pay for college for all FOUR years!! It would be nice if the traveling paid photographer was at the college graduation ... I have never seen that but I have seen it at prom send offs.
