I find it ironic the right is beside themselves on this issue. in 2006 I sat with my jaw agape as Condoleezza Rice sat in an interview and admitted the US had no clue as to Palestinian support of Hamas over their incumbent leaders at the time. The hand wringing over having an election with shrills of One person, one vote! to demonstrate Jeffersonian democracy in a post invasion Iraq apparently overwhelmed an administration that could not chew gum and walk at the same time. Even more ironic is that an election did take place. Hamas turned around and said fine, you want an election, heres one for you. Rice sitting and admitting we had no clue that Hamas had that kind of strength on the ground in Gaza and the West Bank was stunning to me. Even more stunning she and the administration shrugged it off and more or less said, No one could see this coming. Really? No one? Google this issue between October, 2005 and January 2006. Youll be stunned at how many people were aware of this issue outside of an administration headed by a guy who had to be told that Brazil was populated with people of color. So if you are going to sit and hand wring over our engagement with this critical ME issue/policy unfolding now with regards to the Palestinians v. Israel then do it context. At least this administration is engaged and, you know, CAN chew gum and walk at the same time. [i.e. See Iran, Syria, and e.t.c.]
