I find it shocking that my local paper and local news stations have not made one mention of the death of Raphael Ravenscroft The musician behind one of the most recognisable saxophone solos in the world – on Gerry Rafferty’s hit Baker Street – has died aged 60 How many of my friends know that Raphael was actually a Stokie ? Born right here in the Potteries 4 June 1954..... . Raphael is reported to have been paid £27 for the Baker Street session in the form of a cheque that bounced ....... But that Saxaphone Solo is without doubt one of the most widely recognised music riffs in the world in fact its agreed universally that because of that Saxophone Solo that made Baker Street the Worldwide Hit it was and went on to Launch Raffertys Career RIP Raphael........... from a Proud Stokie................................
