I find no basis for any charge against Him. - From John - TopicsExpress

I find no basis for any charge against Him. - From John 18:38 These words were spoken by the Roman governor, Pilate, in response to the Jewish people who brought Jesus to Him on behalf of the chief priests, elders, teachers of the law, and the whole Sanhedrin who condemned Him. While with Pilate, Jesus openly responded in identifying Himself as the king and witness to the truth. Pilate expressed preference that the crowd judge Jesus by their own laws, but they complained that they didnt have the right to put anyone to death. Still, once Pilate learned that Jesus was from Galilee (Herods area of authority), Pilate sent Jesus to Herod. Herod happened to be in Jerusalem. Herod had wanted to see Jesus for a long time and see Him do a miracle. Herod asked Him many questions, but Jesus did not answer. The chief priests and teachers of the law shouted charges against Him, and the soldiers laughed and made fun of Him. They finally dressed Jesus in a beautiful robe and sent Him back to Pilate. There was a custom by the governor that, on the day of Passover, He would let one prisoner go free. Pilate offered the crowds to either let Jesus or Barabbas go. Barabbas was someone who had fought against authority and committed murder. In spite of Pilates appeals, the crowds ranted that Barabbas should go free and that Jesus should be crucified. While Pilate was sitting on the judges seat, his wife sent him a message. It said, Dont have anything to do with that man. He is not guilty. I have suffered a great deal in a dream today because of Him. So, Pilate told the crowd that he would just have Jesus whipped and let him go. So, the soldiers led Jesus into the palace. The soldiers put a purple robe on Jesus. Then they twisted thorns together to make a crown. They placed it on his head. They began to call out to him, We honor you, king of the Jews! Again and again they hit him on the head with a stick. They spit on him. They fell on their knees and pretended to honor him. - Mark 15:17-18. ... Pilate took Jesus and had him whipped - From John 19:1 When Jesus was brought back out to Pilate to face the crowds, the work of the soldiers was surely evident. It is not likely that any normal man could have stood up or lived beyond that point, much less made it to their own cross to be slain. Yet, this was Jesus, and Jesus was more than able to choose His time to die. This is what I believe. How about you? Sources: Matthew 27:11-31, Mark 15:1-20, Luke 23:1-25, and John 18:28-40, 19:1-16
