I find the cereal aisle disturbing. Over-choice overwhelms me. Just give me rolled oats (which is beneath the quick oats, and the instant oats in cups or packets, in apple, cinnamon, raisin, or variety packs; and the new warm and crunchy granola). We are blessed with abundance, but often it is that abundance that distracts, confuses, and causes my brain to come to a screeching halt. As a young mom with eight kids, I was often overwhelmed with parenting decisions. How can I lead them when I am not all-knowing, cant read the future, and cant even pick out their breakfast cereal? One morning I looked around as if for the first time and thought, All these kids- what am I supposed to DO with them??!! I felt like that little servant girl in Gone With the Wind: But Mz Scahlet, I don know nothin about birthin no babies! And in that state of panic, this came to mind: He is the Good Shepherd. He does not ask his sheep to know the location of the best grass, the freshest water, the safest pasture-that is His job. The sheeps job is simply to stay close to Him, to stop when He stops, walk when He walks, and to trust Him when he says, not that way.... No matter what decisions you face today, if He is your shepherd, this is for you: He shall feed His flock like a shepherd; He shall gather the lambs in His arms, and carry them in His bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young. Isa 40:11
