I find the whole situation around The Interview to be fascinating. On the one hand, I agree with the idea that we, in the United States, have freedom of speech and cannot be dictated to by terrorists. That said, I also feel you have to pick your battles. Theres a saying when it comes to safety that you can be right and dead - often used to describe the need for defensive driving (for example, you may have right of way at an intersection, but if some jackhole blows the red light and you arent careful, you can still wind up smashed). I think it applies here. I dont like the idea of backing away from one of our bedrock principles because some criminals and bullies said we had to, but I also question whether its worth risking the safety of average citizens. (And really, if were going to take that kind of risk, can we please do so over a more important piece of cinema?). I also think I would feel differently if we werent talking about a movie whose premise is the assassination of a sitting world leader. As kooky as we may think this guy is, I can see how that premise would leave some folks in that part of the world a bit agitated. In closing ... annoyed that the bad guys win, but glad weve decided to take the sensible approach here. money.cnn/2014/12/17/media/the-interview-sony-theater-owners/
