I first got to be around and see Lebron when he was 14 at the BCI national tournament, even then he had a huge media following and when his team played it was standing room only. There was a buzz around him and I saw that smile and headband and liked him immediately. I next heard about him when he was in HS and ESPN would show his games on TV. He had a pressure to be as great as Jordan immediately. People have hated and disliked this kid from day 1 and I could never figure out why, and I liked him more and more from day 1 and I couldnt figure out why, until today. So many people think Jordan never failed and thats not true, but he won the national championship in college and then was 6-0 in NBA Finals, Lebron has been to the Finals 5 times and only won 2; he will prob go 10 times before his career is over and probably win 4; when he made the Decision America turned on the kid. And now today people are starting to see who the kid really is. My pro career was obviously nothing like Lebrons, I was cut by the Bears, then the Eagles and before I would concede I was cut by 3 more teams. Which brings me to why I like this kid so much, his expectations have exceeded reality and he has failed multiple times. But he never stays down, he learns from each failure and comes back more successful. When his career is over we will realize just how special he was and what a team player he was. Hes the type of kid I would be proud to call my own. My two oldest sons Christian Shorten and Jonathan Shorten got me back interested in the NBA 8 years ago on a great trip to watch the Heat play the Hornets, D Wade had a triple double that night but it wasnt enough to beat Chris Paul. Today 1 had on his Heat shirt and the other pulled back out his lebron Caavs jersey and told me hes a Lebron fan. Well so am i son. Thanks for a memorable day sons and thank you for reminding us we can always go home Lebron.
