I first met Emily when I went on a recruiting trip to West Point in 1996. She and my brother Elliot were good friends. Guess they became great friends because they got married in 1997! Shes more than my sister-in-law, shes my confidant, friend, mentor, sister...and my hero. A month ago our family got some tough news which Im letting her explain below. But one thing I know about Emily, shes one tough mama and she will kick cancers ass like she has before! Love you Em!!! Friends and family - Many of you know whats going on with me but I wanted to use Facebook as its an easy way to update people. I had cancer in my trachea in 2001. Ive had periodic scans because the rare type of cancer I had is known to hide for years and then return. I had a pain in my back this summer and had a scan which showed a lesion in my spine. Im so blessed that the cancer was limited to one small spot and in the last 13 years, the technology has developed considerably. Ive spent much of the month of August at MD Anderson in Houston and today I start the first of three treatments called radiosurgery. Hopefully it will kill what is there. If this all goes well, our life will return to normal and I will just be going for checks (probably very often for a while) and remaining vigilant to see if it returns. I share this because I believe your prayers help.
