I flunked the Ham test by 1 today but I can still listen! This is from the story about the ex-military a$$ whore that is planning on targeting Preppers rather than do it himself that is posted earlier. Comment ID: 2133976 August 27, 2013 at 12:39 pm One item everyone such have with these perilous times now and in the future is some sort of shortwave radio. I would recommend all radios be protected in a faraday cage to guard against EMP from the Sun and man made. Most shortwave listening is not censored by some middle man, you hear what you should. For those with shortwave radios there are some emergency frequencies you can listen to: Military Command and Control 4.724 Mhz 4.742 6.739 6.712 8.992 11.175 13.200 15.016 Was listening and lots of chatter on this last night, especially 4.724 FEMA, known as federal enforced military association 5.211 10.493 14.567 This will probably become stations that are on most of the time after this happens You can enhance the shortwave’s little antennas with a wire hung as straight as possible across a higher location around the home. Then connect the wire to some alligator clips and snap the alligator clips to the shortwave’s antenna. This will improve the reception. To determine how much length of wire you need will be the frequencies you desire. Say you want to listen to some New Zealand news at about 7.5 Mhz. You would divide 468 by 7.5 = 62.4 feet. The higher the frequency the less wire you need for an antenna. many stations are in the 11 to 13 Mhz range, that would be 36 to 42.5 feet. Lower bands such as 4.7 would need about 100 feet of wire. The Military Command and Control though you can usually hear with just the radio’s attached antenna. Solar activity will decrease dramatically the reception even with the best store bought antennas though.
