I follow African Football and Ive come to understand how changed the game has. Im not sounding alarm or pressing panic buttons. Togo wont be cheap anyday at any venue. Especially when they potentially can qualify as well. We need a draw and they need a win. This is a Togolese team that is so unpredictable. And this Ghana a Ghana team that is so weak, listless, spiritless and inconsistent. This is a Black Stars team that has conceded a goal (s) in virtually every competitive game this calender year. Our football chiefs have always allowed off field discussion ruin preparations and build ups to games and eventually affects our performance. From World Cup to Afcon qualifiers. We comically think we are still football giants. We still think of ourselves as the Black Stars of 2006-2012, and even with that, we won nothing. Why cant we face reality and tackle things as theyre. We travelled to Uganda with poor selections and jibes, counter jibes and scathing attacks. It was all about who had the sharper tongue. Was like we were going to play against a school team. Was like we had automatically being declared winners. We showed no respect. And in the end we got beaten, humiliated I must say. We come to face Togo in crucial do or die match and see us again. Talks on plot of assassination, who will contest this, who will contest that and suggestions of Maxwell Konadu leading us to Afcon have dominated airwaves. As if we have already qualified. Goodness me. Even Algeria who qualified after two matches wont dont this. Our arrogance has left us trophy-less for years and we still pride ourselves with past glories. In Afcon 2012, before we could dispose our semi final opponents Zambia, our football chiefs were already talking on radio about a potential rematch of Senegal 92 final with Ivory Coast and Zambia lashed our asses. In 2013, we still didnt learn. Our FA president was talking about a final clash between Ghana-Nigeria calling it a battle fit for the gods when we had not even done with Burkina, and they whipped our arrogance. Before the world Cup 2014, talks were on food and budget and a semi-final berth when we had not put groundbreaking plans in place to pass the groups. African players, and essentially Ghanaians footballers are not psychologically and mentally strong. Theyre easily undone and overtaken by public sentiments and talks. Unlike most of their European counterparts, African players are easily affected and carried by emotions. And we still choose to take that path. If CAF says we have already qualified, tell us. If we havent, FOCUS on the task ahead and stop this cocky, inessential and needless four-month old assassination plot or else Togo might stun us. They also have footballers like we do, the play fotball and they can also score. Lets respect them. Lets not again lose focus.
