I follow a couple of potters on Instagram who have been making sets of dishes for restaurants - which is fascinating and challenging and hard work and beautiful. Then this morning in catching up on blog reading, another ceramicist whose blog I follow posted this article on just that topic (buff.ly/1EREAII)... and she said that since this article came out, shed been contacted by not one but TWO different new restaurants wanting to know if shed be interested in donating sets of dishes to them, for exposure. Donating. Entire sets of dishes. For free. For the exposure. I think about how long it takes me to make a mug... and I think about these potters Ive been following on Instagram and how long Ive been watching them make enough dishes for an entire restaurant. And I think about someone asking for that much work, for free, because its good exposure. Exposure is beneficial, right?! You know what else is beneficial? Being able to make a living wage from your craft, so that you can continue to do what you love, and put your art and passion out into the world.
