I, for one, am tired of many people calling Pope Francis a communist or some other epithet because of the concerns he expresses. Usually they do so only because they know half the story. They read the headline of a leftist website trying to twist his words, or a right-wing website ignoring his words. What I appreciate about Pope Francis so much, as with other Popes before him, is their recognition that one of the greatest issues of the hour, in a modern, 21st century, 24/7 world, is a recapitalization of an organic sense of community, and a reconstituted spiritual life. Our world of machines, technology, and social media is, if we are not watchful, bound to strip us further of our humanity. Solving our problems is not simply a matter of looking at economic and fiscal statistics, but recapturing the very essence of what it means to be fully human in the 21st century.
