I fortuitously met a fellow named Phillip Gilmore yesterday while running. Found out hes a recent replant from Mississippi with his family: Dorita, Jasmine, Kevin, and Kayla. They are caring for her father and looking for work to get back on their feet. I had Phillip clean the yard today, and when I found out it was Kaylas 7th birthday, worked with Kevin and Jasmine to bake a cake for their sister while mom shopped for a gift and dad did yard clean up. Kayla was surprised -- and very happy. Technically homeless now (staying at shelters), they are looking for work and housing. Hopefully for this little shy 7 year old, her new life in CU is a little brighter with this homemade cake from her sister and brother.
