I found a very frustrated candidate asking a doubt about what exactly the SSB was looking for in a candidate, so I thought of sharing this remark that I wrote for him. I have written many blogs on our Olive Greens website explaining the nuances of the selection process and giving tips to improve, you may like to go through those as well: “SSB is looking for a well rounded off personality. Speaking English and speaking sense; and having the sense to distinguish between the mundane and the meaningful are the decisive factors during the SSB. Therefore, SSB is looking for a well informed person, who understands his moral obligations towards the society / immediate environment that he lives in and always projects a mature and realistic thought process. SSB is looking for well groomed individuals who are respectful and dignified in their social graces and display an accomplished demeanour in their interactions. SSB is also looking for friendly, but firm individuals who take pride in their abilities, but, are also sensitive to the needs of their compatriots; who will take initiative to help achieve the groups goal rather than to seek personal limelight and steel other peoples thunder. SSB is looking for people who will never ever give up in the face of difficulties and stand up to all setbacks and failures, but, at the same time display flexibility to judge and accommodate the most logical option. SSB is looking for people who are a reservoirs of limitless positive energy and are willing to walk the extra mile when the chips are down. In order to acquire these qualities you need to first ascertain your present and latent potential, understand what is lacking and proceed to inculcate these through a continuous process of remaining conscious to the changes/ modifications that you desire in your personality. Finally, it is not how much you speak but what you speak that matters. This reminds me of an Urdu shair: Mauj-e Dariya Se Keh Raha Hai Samundar Ka Sakoon, Ki Jisme Jitna Zaraf (depth) Hai, Woh Utna Hi Khamosh Hai
