I found out I was nominated on Twitter. It’s weird how I always find out about this kind of big news over social media. Be that as it may, if I stop for a second and think of it, it makes sense. That’s where it all started… with a few demos innocently uploaded on Facebook a few years ago, here I am now, with all of you guys supporting me, through the good and the bad times. Yeah, it’s been a long and intense journey. I feel humbled. It has not been always easy, I was starting from the bottom, and having to deal with the critics, but as I always say, if you believe in what you do, you have to keep your head up. Nevermind the nose ring that some misread as some Illuminati sign or the shit I got for some bad live performances, that’s just a drop in the ocean. I’ve kept my head up, carried on expressing myself, kept giving it all on stage, and trying to make a change in South Africa. My mission is to empower Africa, we are not the underdogs, and we often need to be reminded that music comes from us. We all have a role to play here, and we are ALL talented, it’s not about a social status, money or a gender status, it’s about determination! That’s brought me here, in front of Europe, nominated for a spot at the MTV EMA 2013…. Wow… I am a Zulu, and if I make it, I’ll be the first ever Zulu, rural girl, to ever make it there. That’s quite an honor. I have no word, but gratefulness. I am not really going to ask you to help me, cause I have been asking over the past few days already, but I just wanted to say THANK YOU, for your beautiful support since we started. From the bottom of my heart: I love you all (even when I have to yell at you ☺) (my friends could tell you, always complaining that I spend too much time on my phone, trying to reply to all of your messages…). And I know that whether you are a fan, a far out supporter (from Africa to Artica), or if you once had ‘Pump it on’ stuck in your head…we must have something in common: Empowerment. Keep it up, let’s do this, let’s go to Europe guys ☺ Much love. Toya
