I found this quote which speaks deeply to me. I dont know where it originated, the person who posted it didnt cite the source, although they did say they got it elsewhere. If anyone knows where it came from, Id be proud to cite the source. No one ever got assaulted, without the person who assaulted them. No one ever got abused, without the person who abused them. No one ever got raped, without the person who raped them. And when we tell the victim, the survivor, the person to whom bad shit happened, tell them to take Personal Responsibility for what happened to them, were making the person who assaulted, abused, raped them - invisible. Hidden. As if they dont exist, as if it happened in a vacuum where only the survivor has any culpability. Yeah. That. When we victim-blame, we let the perpetrator off the hook, tell them its OK to assault, abuse, rape, murder. We are telling the perpetrator its OK because we are saying the victim is responsible for it happening. We are telling the perpetrator its OK because the abuser, assaulter, rapist, murderer was only doing what we are saying the victim wanted done. Were telling the perpetrators its OK because we are saying the victim asked for it. Personal Responsibility belongs to the person who carries out the abuse, the assault, the robbery, the mugging, the rape, the beating, the humiliation, the murder, the theft, the bullying, the cruel teasing. As the quote says, there is no victim without the perpetrator.
