I found this to be very profound and so true: The greater lesson in Elisha’s request is evident. In our petition for the anointing of God’s Sprit upon our lives and ministries, we must keep our eyes on Christ at all times. And we must ever move forward with God. We dare not tarry at Bethel, or linger with the sons of the prophets at Jericho. We must die to our self-life, typified by Elijah and Elisha’s passage through Jordan, symbolic of death. In our spiritual walk we must have eyes for no one but Christ. Our communion with Him must be continual. Then we will have a powerful ministry like Elisha had. While the gift of the Holy Spirit is for all believers, receiving a double portion is another matter. It is only for people like Elisha, who have burned all bridges behind them, whose eyes are only for Christ have made prayer the supreme business of their life.
