I freak out when I burn my arm on a tray from the oven. This is Melinda. She got her arm burnt by a hot metal pole....By her 43 year old stepfather...Who was forcing her to remove her clothes so he could rape her. And I get upset cos my iPhone smashed...Melinda is just 13. In Papa New Guinea, 60% of the men will actually BOAST of joining a gang rape and 2 out of every 3 women have been subject to domestic violence. A little girl named Julie was just SIX years old, and she got kidnapped by four men in Lae, and they raped her for eight hours and then just left her on the street. And the injuries that she suffered are so severe, that now she can barely walk and she will never be able to have children. Amnesty International is working on this right now and what has happened, there has now been a legislation put in place to protect these women. But they cant do it without the help of people like us. You can get on board for just $5 a week...so break it down to a daily amount, thats 71c. So lets say you are on minimum wage of $13.75. Youd be working less than four minutes a day to help them out. Your support is the difference between things staying the same and these women being abused, or change happening and these women being protected... How do you expect to see change if youre not willing to stand up and do you part? I will be getting in contact with Amnesty and joining up as a monthly supporter and I think you should too. Would would of happened if youd been born into their situation? Only four minutes a day.
