I frequently have clients and others ask me how much water they should be drinking daily. No doubt you have seen very dogmatic rules on water consumption. But put bluntly, these ‘rules’ are stupid. Everyone has different hydration needs. Sweat rate, activity levels, the amount of water in the food we eat and other lifestyle factors play a huge role in how much additional water we need to consume. Instead I recommend listening to our body. Being thirsty does NOT mean you are dangerously dehydrated. Rather it is our body’s brilliant way of telling us to drink. Also, check your urine color. Dark yellow means you need to drink more, clear means you are over-hydrated. Our body is pretty smart. Paying attention to its indicators is the smartest way to go.
