I fully agree.... its why I allowed my children to become autodidacts, to teach themselves. After a high school principal admitted the system was not set up to deal with children who were not middle of the road, I thanked him for his honesty and confirming the rightness of taking my children out of the system. Taking this further, I did not encourage my children to go on to college. I did encourage them to experience a bit of life first, travel, try out different things, explore as much as they could. Go to junior college first and take as many courses that looked interesting to them before going on to a four year program that would indebt them (and me) for much of their lives for a degree they may not ever use because they were channeled by course counselors using standardized tests to erroneously define who they would be for the rest of their lives. No regrets. I continue to be enamored and amazed by the thinking, creativity, sense of humor, and ideas that come from my children. Not a part of an assembly line education, they are individuals.
