I gave a talk today before my HS alma matter. It was the strangest, most heartwarming thing. It was the first time in 22 yrs that I spoke before LSQC students. I could understand why I may not have been considered to speak at career orientation day in the past. (Tanggap ko na yun). It was funny how I tried to explain to the kids what it is I do and why I chose that path. At first I wasnt sure how theyd react. I was grateful for the many questions that they raised. They showed genuine interest in what activists do. They asked about Napoles and the pork barrel scam. They asked about the elections and who would be president. The teachers whom I have not seen in years seemed very updated on various issues. I come from a Franciscan school, where at an early age we were taught about the life of a man from an affluent family who left it all to serve God and the poor. Unbeknownst to most of my teachers, I owe part of my activism to that Franciscan upbringing.
