I gave away my devil sticks yesterday :) Sort of an extended loan to the kids next door who asked me to teach them something since on a normal afternoon theyre looking for something fun to do. Realized I havent been using the sticks much these days and Ive wanted to teach someone for ages so I did a little demo and they loved it. Watching them try to get the hang of just getting the main stick off the ground and starting to understand I wasnt kidding when I said there were no magnets in it and they needed to get better at finding balance...not only did I sound like an old kung fu master but they reminded me of how difficult I used to find it at the beginning. They reminded me of the hundreds of times I dropped the stick and all the back pain that came with it and they reminded me that when I achieved competence the struggle seemed unquestionably worth it even though I doubted ever getting the hang of it once upon a time. I told them, Youve got to be stubborn about this thing, dont give up...its like life. I left them with an intro lesson and will check back in a week at which point Ill show them how to make their own sticks.
