I gave myself a lesson today when I already knew the lesson. - TopicsExpress

I gave myself a lesson today when I already knew the lesson. Lessons usually have some pain or disappoint to drive them home. So, a person is a fool to knowingly ask for another helping of pain around something that they already learned . Why do we as humans do that to ourselves? It is exactly the thing I coach my clients to avoid. Mine today was knowingly overdoing my expenditure of energy in the day prior to speaking this morning. I could have made a few simple choices that would have bypassed the whole thing. What I delivered today was not the best me I can be. I felt and presented like I was in a fog. I knew that I was doing that to myself and yet, I chose to think it would somehow be different for this time. That of course is the definition of insanity. What I delivered today didnt feel like it was delivered succinctly, clearly, or otherwise to my satisfaction. It bugs me that I was the sole reason for my own dissatisfaction. I am reminded to utilize a phrase that I give all of my coaching clients when they do the same: Progress not perfection. Perhaps this personal helping of discomfort will do the job. Maybe this post will be a reminder for others to be thoughtful around their choices and actions to avoid doing what I did. Then the lesson will be worth it for me!
