I generally avoid politically charged messages on Facebook like the plague, but the reactions to a PETA video that went viral hits a little too close to home for me. Before I say anything else, cruelty towards animals appals me and those found guilty must be brought to justice. But to those of you who are advocating the boycott of a whole industry because of this isolated incident, wake up. I grew up on a sheep farm, I spent 6 years at an agricultural high school and Ive even worked in one of the countrys largest sheep slaughterhouses. Ive been surrounded by wool and meat production all my life and I dont know anyone who even tolerates cruelty to these animals, let alone practices it. Australian wool produces and shearers alike do it incredibly tough already and before you jump on your high horse and ride the boycott bandwagon of misinformation to drive the already very low wool prices down further, I urge you to watch the video below. The countless thousands of hard working primary producers who do the right thing and treat animals humanely go unseen, so dont let the one viral video that appeared on your news feed shape your opinion of the whole industry. In short, dont be a dickhead.
