I genuinely feel bad for certain swimmers. They had the talent to achieve much more than what they are doing and will ever do. Why? I think anybody who has read my posts in the past knows my views. It is no shame to lose to a deserving and better competitor. But, it is shameful to lose because you have not trained or have not been trained properly. I pity such swimmers and their parents. They evade taking decisions because of fear, uncertainty, doubts, and what not. Or they are too naive or simply stupid. Years of hard work has gone to waste. They should have by now broken in to international scene but in stead they find themselves being defeated by juniors. Coaching is all about sincerity and caring for your students. A coach has to be like a monk - unattached and unselfish. He should know when to let go his pet students and have them join some advanced coach and better setting. It is also the fault of parents of age group medal winners who start believing that they know it all and when their child eventually loses they become bitter and frustrated. Alas, this is mostly not the case and age group champions have to retire before reaching their full potential in oblivion and darkness.
