I get chided for cheering for the Heat even though Im from Chicago. I was recently asked how do I pick my teams? whats the inspirations? That question caused me to write this: The interesting thing is, I never really thought about it till now but Im not a fan of any team. I guess you can call me a bandwagon jumper but when I was younger growing up in Chicago, I fell in absolute love with Michael Jordan. But heres the thing. I didnt watch basketball until he retired the first shortly after the third championship. And during that time period, sure I cheered for the Bulls but I was also crazy about other players, particularly shooters. I LOVED watching Shooters. I thought it was the fantastic to watch someone shoot the from distance and hit consistently. Also my father played in a company league and that was his best skill. He flat out SHOOT the ball. So players like, Reggie Miller, Mitch Richmond, Glen Rice, Steve Smith, even John Starks, Kenny Smith and Sam Cassel, Jeff Honacek and John Stockton. I loved them all. But when MJ23 came back, he showed what excellence was. He dominated the physically but also mentally. Even at a young age I could see him out think the opponents. That was fascinating to me. And just like that he was gone again. But I fell in love with Basketball through MJ. It truly was poetry in motion . . . classical music at play (which is why Spike Lees Hes Got Game - best basketball action scenes in a movie set to classical music) And from there my love for individual players grew out of that. I love young kevin garnett because of his intensity and pure passion for the game and stephon Marbury. I called them the pack of wolves I thought they would be the next stockton and malone. I love tracey McGrady more than Vince Carter and people forget that they were on the same team at one point and if the staff in toronto realize how good he was instead of all of Vinces dunks, they could of had one of the best wing tandems in the history of the game (who are also cousins) Young Ray Allen, Glenn Robinson, vin Baker, Shawn Kemp the Reign man, I mean there are just soooo many players that I love to watch. so when it comes down to Im a basketball fan. There is probably a player on every team that I secretly root for and therefore root for their team. I have no allegiance. As far as the Miami Heat - I love Dwayne Wade because of what he did to Dallas Mavs back in 2006. Reminded me of that guy that made me fall in love with the game that wore 23 (and 45 for a couple of games) I cant help myself. Im greedy. I love Basketball.
