I get off work this morning and go to the Chicken Express on loop in Tyler for my bi monthly chicken livers fix. I arrived a lil early before they opened. A slender, middle aged black man came out and said they would open in about ten minutes if I wanted to wait. Then he said, why dont I take your order and cook it while you are waiting? I paid him and gave him a tip. Afterwards, I got out another couple of dollars, realizing my tip did not even begin to say thank you for his kindness. He brought my order to me and in talking, he said, You have a Blessed Day and I could tell he really meant it. I left and realized that I had not acknowledged him by looking in his eyes, not once. I could not tell you even what he looked like. I am a caregiver. Sometimes people dont really see me either. We come into this world with nothing, we leave this world with nothing, even the richest human on earth. People deserve that we look at them and acknowledge them. I next stopped and bought gas. When I paid the clerk, I looked him in the eyes and he smiled at me. He SAW ME, too..
