I get really nervous posting things like this, so please be nice and read this with an open mind! This is simply MY opinion. Before going to the polling booths think of this.... If National get let in again the Maui Dolphin WILL become extinct, deep sea oil drilling will continue, our national parks will continue to become Nationals Parks, the rich will keep getting richer and the gap between the rich and the poor will continue to increase. Voting National because your parents told you to? Your parents grew up in a VERY different, non-neoliberal New Zealand. The government provided tonnes more assistance during the 1970s and 80s than it ever has today, tertiary education was free and the working poor barely existed. Has National really helped our economy? When they were elected into power they told us stories of doom and gloom surrounding our economy - but within months they announced huge tax cuts for their rich mates with the hope that it would trickle-down - If my degree has taught me one thing, its that trickle down does not work. Voting National because you like John Key? John is 1 person in National. Sure, hes the face of the party, but he doesnt make all of the decisions. Do you like Paula Bennett? How about Bill English? What about Steven Joyce? Hekia Parata? Anne Tolley? A vote for National is not only a vote for John Key, but its also a vote for all of these hideously empathetic people. Even if you completely and utterly dont agree with me about this, Im sure you can appreciate that your vote DOES matter. There is absolutely no point in not voting - nobody will know why you didnt vote, all they know is you are a non-voter.
