I get this --- Grand Masters everywhere!!! In search of awards banquets - honors to be validated! I first ask how long a person has studied? Grandmaster of what system? Curious --- have you ever competed? Or have old pics of the day? Can you converse with others with proper or remotely close proper grammar? (I am no genius) but easily figured out! A Grand Master isnt something that is honored by old school men and women unless you have something besides awards documentation! This title is a coveted one that is so easily said and made fun of - due to stupidity! When so some one demands that title in conversation -- Beware If they say this is Joe -- During conversation you can validate worth within a few simple words of dialogue! Now said --- Many of people I speak with daily and friends, are happy with sir, Sensei, etc depending on systems - those do not want to be called the hype of Grandmaster! This is so distorted it is sickening! Over 50 yrs study myself -- I still find it hard to have people call me Master Sensei is my proper verbiage. Let alone the GrandMaster thing ! I do demand sir - in my student body -- but titles of others is just not my style! Thats just me! I survived approx. 16 years of college -- Let not let this be confused with my 50 plus years of the arts! My reasoning for this rant --- is due to people exercising titles they have no biz claiming! And confuses new potential members at various locations! I try to be humble man -- Jim/sir/Sensei is fine with me! In documentation -- my titles announced! I am proud -- but Jim is good for me!
