I go an email from a well known adoption agency this week describing their program Mexico and they listed poverty as their number one reason to adopt from Mexico. Something about that email made me angry. Poverty is not a reason to take a child out of a country. We are not better parents if we have a minivan and have a steady job. This post is about a family who is making the hard decision to give up on their adoption because they learned that the little girl they were adopting was not an orphan and she has a family in Uganda that wants her but they are poor. Instead of snatching her out of Uganda they are instead joining with a ministry on the ground in Uganda to equip her family to provide for her and to be reunited with her. This is the gospel people. They have been working on this adoption for a long time. They have invested money and time and love but they have made this decision. They will not be coming home with a daughter. Their children will not gain a sister. But they are loving a whole family. That is awesome to me.
