I got 3 pans from my boss, someone brought in about 6 to the store and he bought them with the intentions of drilling a hole in the bottom and making a cactus planter out of them. I rescued 3 -- dutch oven, self basting lid and skillet. Put them into lye bath soak Thanksgiving weekend, took the lid out 2 weeks later and scrubbed it, soaked it in vinegar, scrubbed, then put it back in the lye bath for another couple weeks. Pulled out the skillet then and scrubbed it, soaked in vinegar awhile, scrubbed then put it back into the lye bath for a week. Got the lid cleaned up and seasoned, skillet is cleaned and oiled, waiting for seasoning. DO is still in the bath. Took it out today and rinsed it off, soaked it in vinegar a couple hours, rinsed and wire brushed. Still has some crud stuck on it in one area but I am seeing some metal. Remains to be seen if its going to be good, then I still need to do a lead test on all. First time doing this much rescuing but Im kind of pleased with what Ive done and learned. The DO is Wagner, skillet I think is vintage Lodge, lid is a guess but Im thinking Wagner or Griswald.
