I got an Amazon gift card for Christmas and what did I decide to buy with it? The Blu-ray of Death Valley (1982). Yes, that old 80s slasher film with Peter Billingsley (aka Ralphie from A Christmas Story or Messy Marvin from the Hersheys syrup commercials) Why? Well, for some reason Ive always wanted to see it and to my knowledge it had never been put out on DVD and the rental stores where I grew up never had a copy. Well, now I know why! This film isnt bad per se, as its competently made and has some decent actors (most notably horror veteran, Stephan McHattie), but rather its just plain dumb. It relies heavily on what Roger Ebert used to call the idiot plot, where everyone had to act like an idiot or else there would be no movie. Whats bad though is that not only do the films protagonists act so stupid, but so does the killer as well, to the point where I was shrinking in my seat from embarrassment that I wasted by gift card on this movie.
