I got an E-MAIL today from a teacher who has been using my high school courses for some time now. I guess there are some groups out there that are saying those courses dont prepare students for college-level work. Here is how he replied: Apologia not college-prep? To date, I have had over 5500 graduate from college with science majors. We are in 66 countries. We have had 37 graduate from military academies, 14 doctors, 9 engineers, and 158 (that we know of) go on for advanced degrees – including one that is doing advanced genetics work on a cure for AIDS at CDC. We have had graduates from the Air Force Academy, Harvard, Stanford, Cornell, and MIT just this year alone. All of them homeschooled using Apologia textbooks. In case you are interested, here is my favorite story sent to me by a college student who used my courses: …I am currently a freshman at LeTourneau University. As a homeschooled high school student, I had the privilege of using your material...I have been very pleased with the excellent preparation that I received as a result of using your material for chemistry. Several weeks ago…our professor…said that he was going to recognize several students for their academic achievements in General Chemistry. I was naturally gratified to hear my name among [those] called…The other two students who were recognized are friends of mine, so I knew that both of them had been homeschooled. I also knew that one had used your high school science curriculum, but I wasnt sure about the other. After class, I had to find out. Amazingly, the other student had also used your chemistry program in high school! What a coincidence that out of sixty General Chemistry students, the three students to receive awards, based upon their mid-term grades, were all homeschooled and all used the same Chemistry program! Obviously we were well prepared through your curriculum. Thank you so much for producing an excellent product!
