I got an email from our good friend Sean, at the LArche Community - TopicsExpress

I got an email from our good friend Sean, at the LArche Community here in Portland. For those of you who have been with us to LArche, you know that we often times experience a real sensation of peace and joyfulness while we are there. Here is the thought that Sean passes on to us through the LArche experience: Joy Visitors are often astonished at the joy they sense at LArche. It surprises me too because I know how much suffering some people in our communities are carrying. I wonder then if all joy doesnt somehow spring from suffering and sacrifice. Can those who are rich and live in comfort and security with everything they need, and refuse to be close to those who are suffering, be truly joyful? Jean Vanier, Community and Growth, p. 316 My own thoughts here are that we dont necessarily need to go out and to be miserable in order to later be happy. Rather, happiness comes as the result of the deep connections we form with each other as we live, pray, serve and sometimes struggle together. Happiness is in healthy relationships with God and with each other!
