I got hit today on my morning ride today. Cycling friends: theres little we can do on this front when were all flashered up and 3 inside the white line. Thats the frustrating part. Driving friends: please look out for us. I know you do. Dont get frustrated with us if were riding in accordance with the laws prescribing how we should use the roads. All friends: teach your kids to NOT TEXT AND DRIVE. And dont do it yourselves. Thats what almost killed me today. A texting teen came a few feet over the white line and hit me, swerved back onto the road and briefly stopped before speeding off. A few inches to the right and Id be in the hospital rather than nursing a large hematoma on my left arm and getting a shoulder issue looked at (that hopefully doesnt mean I pulled out some titanium anchors). There is no reason we should be having car/cycle accidents. We can all do better obeying the rules of the road. But I will call out every vehicle that doesnt give me 3 or otherwise harasses me as codified under UCA § 41-6a-706.5. That call out might be as tame as a head shake, but may include a single finger salute and choice words. And if I see you not give mine 3 or harass mine while Im riding with them? Game on.
