I got my first pick of Okra this a.m. and since there was not a qt to put in freezer, I just had fried okra for brunch. Yummy. Grasshoppers are really being a problem. My birdhouse gourds have not one leaf on them even though they were sprayed with 7 . Lots of dead ones on the ground, but more just keep coming. I might have to give up on garden, as you can not spray the whole pasture. That is where they are coming from. I bet the cows are sick of them. What I need is an invasion of Gulls to come eat these things. I bet that the wild turkeys are getting fat. I wonder if you could slip some tame turkeys in with the wild ones and get a turkey that is better than the wild ones? Check cows this a.m. and moved them into west pasture so I could get a good look at them moving. One cow stayed up by hay bales, so went to check and her little heifer was in the bales. I opened two gates but by the time I got there the calf had gone back through the fence. I like to pick my cucumbers when they are small, but it seems that every time I turn around I have these big worthless cucumbers. Ugh. Same story on zucchini. The dry weather has slowed down my work. So having some set on my rear time. Kind of nice. Can not believe that the Kildare are flocking so early. I have two sets of baby Barn Swallows in garage. I have been spritzing them two or three times a days, cause it is so hot up next to the ceiling. Suddenly I have a bunch of Humming birds. Wonder if they are starting to travel south already. This usually happens in Sept. ???????
