I got pulled aside away from the whole family at security check in - TopicsExpress

I got pulled aside away from the whole family at security check in Frankfurt heading to Washington. Being the only one with a non-American passport of course. I had to go through extra physical inspection. Tested my skin for explosive material. Tested my luggage for explosive material. Took my shoes away for special screening. In the middle of all that they keep apologizing its because of the Americans not us. Then they asked me to turn on my phone, my laptop, my tablet. Now here comes the fun part. The nexus 7 USB port is broken and Im taking it to the US to fix it there. Turns out that there are new US regulations not allowing any devices with dead batteries on flights. They tried to charge it but of course the port is broken. I opened the back for them but something about the look of an electronic board screams bomb to them. After endless discussions between police, me and Lufthansa, I had two options, either miss my flight and deal with the tablet situation by checking it in past passport control, or just throw it. Yes. With my own hands I threw Faridas tablet. She didnt understand. During all this I asked security if the tablet was in my daughters handbag instead of mine, would it have passed because shes American? They said no she would have gone through the same check. But guess what? None of the girls nor my wife were asked to turn on their devices and they went through without any extra security checks. I turned this situation for Farida into a new tablet that well buy her. Shes worried about all her games and emails. I need to explain to her how the cloud works. Meanwhile, make sure your devices can be turned on at security checks or check them in with your luggage. Which what I would have done if I knew about these regulations.
