I got the biggest fright of my life this morning. The carbon - TopicsExpress

I got the biggest fright of my life this morning. The carbon monoxide alarm was going off so I changed the batteries thinking it was just a low battery alert. The alarm continued when fresh batteries were put in. I opened all the windows and doors and called out Bord Gais and there was somebody here within 30 minutes. Straight away before he even got upstairs he was getting readings for carbon monoxide. Our boiler is upstairs in the bedroom where our two babies sleep. He was absolutely shocked at how high the levels were while in that room. The boiler had a deadly carbon monoxide leak. He said evacuation level is 30ppm and at the boiler he was getting a reading of 800ppm. He said the vent in the room had helped to dilute the leak, not sure how long its been leaking or how long weve been exposed to it. It got so bad this morning that the alarm went off, he told us that had we not had the alarm, we probably wouldnt be here. It was THAT bad! So scary that Ive been putting my two babies in that room at night to sleep and daytime to play and nap. We now have to go visit a doctor today because weve all been experiencing flu like symptoms. Just need to be checked over, especially the kids, who have been unwell lately. Sharing this story to urge anybody who hasnt got an alarm to go get one. Theyre about €25 but well worth it, literally saved the lives of my family today.
