I got to thinking about Albert Baxter this morning and decided to - TopicsExpress

I got to thinking about Albert Baxter this morning and decided to jot down a few remembrances. I remember the ever-present mischievous look in his eyes and the slight grin on his face. I remember that he would often greet you with: “May I help you OUT?” I remember that if he discreetly sidled up beside you while chatting you had better be prepared for his special treatment. He would whip his leg behind him and give you an unexpected broadside kick in the butt! I remember the time that I jokingly called him an “out-of-stater.” He quickly informed me that he had been in Maine longer than me! (I was a teenager at the time and he had been a resident here for over 20 years.) I remember the last time I saw Mr. Baxter. He was puttering around in a garden plot on York St. He looked very old and very frail but (though he couldnt remember who I was) he chatted amiably about stuff he did remember. Right to the last his genuine pleasure in chatting with us “kids” was very obvious. I miss you, Baxter, but thanks for the memories.
