I got up to have a peep. The tree was playing host to bees and to our resident White Eyes. The little birds were talking excitedly and darting from branch to branch and twig to twig in their quest for sweet nectar. Suddenly a large shadow swooped over the tree and one of our Trumpeter Hornbills arrived with a bit of a crash landing. They are very clumsy birds but we love having them for their strange antics as they sway and swing around in the upper branches of our forest, braying away from time to time with their plaintiff cry, not unlike a baby’s. Their Shona name is Gangambudzi so maybe their call is more akin to that of a young kid? SEE MORE ON OUR BLOG ecoedblog.moonfruit
