I gotta take the time to give a huge shout out to some of the other Canadian DMC competitors this year. Firstly shouts to Kryme Won and Jimmi Riggz aka Abstrak Wax crew. I think theyre the only active crew in the Canadian battle scene anymore and they both hold it down every battle, both have consistently improved every year and worked their way up to the top of the Canadian battle scene. They both came with personal best 6 minute routines for the finals IMO. Nothing but respect for these guys as turntablists and people. And a massive massive shout out to Wundrkut Eric Cardeno for coming out of retirement and stepping up after 8 years out of the game and getting 2nd in Canada. He has always been an idol to me coming up in the Canadian DJ battle scene. Way back when I drove up to Ottawa to watch my first ever Canadian DMC finals in 2006 he was kind enough to let me crash in his room before the finals having never met before, and he took the time to show me some juggle patterns (which meant even more to me because it was the first time ANYONE had shown me juggles in person). He was the first person to show me that you could put notes between other notes (like trick mixing the hats in a hip-hop beats), I didnt even know you could move the fader that fast before then LOL. So just for that alone Im eternally grateful, not to mention his 2006 routine is a Canadian classic and his Tyrone Brunson / W.R.I.S.T. Breaks scratch routine is one of the few scratch routines I view as being a straight up 10/10 classic. Amazing DJ and even more amazing person. So yea, just had to give these guys their due props. There are no friends in battle but outside of the battle its nothing but respect.
